rn
Irnmust admit that I am very impressed with the organization, I’m veryrnglad I joined and I’m sure I will have a blast with the club events asrnwell as getting to know all of the triathletes. Dave Carlson, Nick (thernvoice of the club), and the staff (don’t know everyone by name yet)rnhave gone way out of their way to bring each and every one of thernmembers the best possible club and club activities. The sponsors arernvery generous as well, supplying all of the food and drink for everyonernat the mini. I’m looking forward to meeting each and everyone of you asrnwell as the sponsors, traveling and racing together will be a joy and, rnsharing the podium with the you all will be the greatest thrill so,rnplan on winning a lot!!!rn
This weekend’s mini was a total success. I wasn’t sure what to expect, being my first event with the club I just showed up and I will tell you as soon as I arrived, I was greeted with plenty of smiles and the aura of friendliness. I was directed to the registration desk and signed up. I had a double sawbuck in my hand and the gentleman told me it was free, I was dumbfounded as I always pay for anything I participate in. He informed me that the sponsors took care of the fees as well as all of the goodies which included, chicken breast, hamburgers, veggies, pretzels and plenty of drinks. Hey, what a deal!!! I get to compete and afterwards feed my face all for a complementary price!!!
After bugging Dave with countless questions, I decided to get my stuff together, set up my transition area and warm up. The weather couldn’t have been any better, mid 60′s, no wind and sunshine. We were all informed of the rules and the course. A mile run on a newly paved road, 2 laps, 3 miles in length (bike), culminating with another mile run. The gun went off at 10am sharp, Nick was blurting out names, amazing how he knew everyone, (I think he had a list). We all took off in a frenzy, I was struggling just to stay 30 yards behind the gazzelles, I settled in and kept a moderate pace. The bike course was on North Shore Road, heading towards the toll booth, two laps were required. There were several volunteers holding traffic as we had to cross the road. Another mile run was in the wings, that one hurt!!! Being primarily a cyclist, I really enjoyed the bike leg. I pushed it hard as I was behind two of the fastest runners, I came into transition 2 and took off on my last mile. These two guys hunted me down, caught me at the turn-around and proceeded to punish me to the finish. After all was said and done, we all had a blast, let’s do it again!!! The turnout was pretty good, I counted over 30 entries! I’m looking forward to Rage in the Sage coming up April 19. This is a premier event in SoNev put together by Brogg and his fine staff. BBSC Endurance is recognized as providing top notch events with safety being number one. I hope every one of you plans to compete in the Rage, I’ve participated the last two years and let me tell you, none better!!!
I e-mailed Dave about having a club time trial in the near future; I hope the club can work it out. What do you think about a 15-mile time trial? It will be great practice for the upcoming triathlons, just another way to get together and compete. I have a few places in mind to hold such an event and, hope to discuss it with Dave and making it a reality. Stay tuned!!!……….So, get excited about racing this year, we have the best club, the best staff, desire, and lots of races to choose from. Let’s show our sponsors that we are eager to exhibit their colors, right up on that PODIUM!!! See you all later……….Victor Rodriguez…….
The only race you can’t win is the one you don’t enter!!!rn
