Duathlon Location: Late Night Trailhead, Clark County, NV (Directions)

Mountain Bike Duathlon: Run 1 mile (1 loop - Map), Bike 8 miles (2 loops – Map), Run 2 miles (2 loops - Map)

Kids Duathlon:  To be determined.  We will make something fun for all kids that are interested.  If we can secure the area, there is a small 0.1 mile paved loop that we may have kids do some bike and run laps on.  We can do a bike and run route on the dirt as long as there is a parent to go along with each kid.  We may also do a family/kid mtn bike ride after event.

Sprint Triathlon:  Swim 500 yards, Bike 10 – 12 miles (Bike Map), Run 3.1 miles (Run Map)

Double Mini and Mini Triathlon: Swim 100/50 yards (waist deep water), Bike 3/1.5 miles, Run 1/0.5 mile (There is no kids race at the 07/09 event – too hot!). Parents are encouraged to complete the course with their children, 1 parent to 1 child athlete. This is required for all kids using bikes that have pedal brakes or training wheels.

Water Temp: All Tri Events are scheduled for when a wetsuit is optional. Typically a wetsuit is recommended in Lake Mead between November and April and not necessary between May and October.  Some athletes prefer to wear a wetsuit for the added warmth and buoyancy and others prefer to go without a wetsuit, which also makes it easier to get through transition.

USA Triathlon (USAT) Wetsuit Rule:

Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wetsuit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wetsuit at their own discretion, provided, however that participants who wears a wetsuit within such temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Above 84 degrees, wetsuits are prohibited.

Course Description: Tri Club events are great for the first time triathlete through the seasoned veteran.  The course will begin in the water at the south ramp at Boulder Beach, athletes will swim straight out to the buoy, turn right, swim past 1 buoy and turn at the second buoy and head back to the ramp where the swim began.

The transition area will be close to the waters edge and racers will proceed to their bike.  Put your helmet on (must be buckled) and cycling gear, walk/run your bike to the  mount/dismount line, and head up the hill and onto the bike course.  All turns on the bike courses will be have both signs and volunteers.  The bike course is all on aspahlt.  Road bikes or triathlon bikes are the most effecient, but a mountain bike or any bicycle can be used.  Bring your own water/nutrition for when you are on your bike.  There is NOT an aid station on the bike route.

When you return to the transition area, get off your bike before the dismount line and run/walk you bike back to your original rack area.  Put on your run gear and head back out the transition area the way you came in and onto the run course.  All turns on the run course will both signs and volunteers.  The run is also all on aspahlt.  Head up the road to Boulder Beach and make a left on the aspahlt road to Hemenway Harbor.  There is a water aid station at the turn around point on the run.

Kids course: The kids course is geared towards younger kids (~5 – 12 years old) .  Teenagers are allowed to race the sprint course with an adult.  The swim will be from the same south ramp as the sprint course.  A rope with small buoys will be set up in water that is approximately waist deep for the kids.  They will swim down 25 yards, turn around and swim back.   The bike course and run course for the kids will both be up the Boulder Beach Road, making a left onto the road to Hemenway Harbor to the turn around point.  A water aid station will be at the turn around point.  We will have volunteers at the turn and turn around point, but it is recommended that you go along the course with your children.

There will be food snacks and water/gatorade in the transition area.

Your event will be timed and the results will be posted on the website the day after the event.

There will be an announcer, music and volunteers along the course

Don’t worry about forgetting items for the race.  Use the following checklist. What to bring to a triahtlon.  It includes many items that you won’t need for this event, but everything you need is on there.
