Hello fellow Triathletes and Endurance Sports Athletes,
I know many of you out there have been going at it this season, have you been telling people about your adventures? Do you find that some in your family and some of your co-workers envy you? I have found over the years that has been the case. I am always a bit mystified and irritated by that attitude. Our sport is not exclusive; it takes the willingness to take on your fears, make a commitment to yourself, and institute a level of self discipline. There is no secret formula; it is just desire and preparation.
That of course requires us change in one way or another. Most of us have had to step out of ourselves and challenge our limitations – that kind of action is not mainstream and it does by its very nature set us apart in the eyes of others. We change internally - we begin to fully understand the courage it takes for the elite athletes to push themselves. We even start relating to statements made by the best in the sport. Not because we are shooting for their performance times necessarily but because in our own way we have had to make difficult choices when it comes to training and racing just as they have.
As for me and some of you - it is the desire to be somebody else - a romantic or a heroic image of our day-to-day self, if only for a few hours. We want to have the battle with our limitations we want the opportunity to overcome. We want to live a big life and we are not satisfied with letting routine of daily events define us. Yes folks if that is a sickness, I think most of us need treatment.
It is summer time in Las Vegas; the heat will be with us now for a while. I hope every thing is well with you - stay safe - appreciate what you are doing and give yourself a pat on the back.

Saturday June 7th the fine people of Las Vegas Cyclery put on the Diamond Kids Triathlon. I was lucky enough to A. Dodge a Bullet at home (my wife was hosting a garage sale for 4 families at our house) and B. Load up my 11 month old son and take a scenic drive on a road that has been as source of some serious pain on my bicycle and head out to Blue Diamond.
